Excavation is the unglamorous but essential first step of any concreting project. The quality of your finished concrete — whether it's a driveway, slab, patio, or retaining wall — depends entirely on the quality of the ground preparation beneath it. Poorly compacted sub-base, inadequate depth, or leftover organic material can lead to settlement, cracking, and costly repairs. At Concrete Concepts Group, we don't cut corners on excavation because we know it's the foundation of everything we build.

We operate our own fleet of machinery including mini excavators (1.7T and 3.5T), skid steer loaders (bobcats), plate compactors, and tipper trucks. Owning our equipment means we're not dependent on subcontractor availability — we can schedule your excavation to fit your project timeline without delays. For tight access sites (narrow side yards, rear yards with limited gate access), our 1.7T mini excavator can fit through openings as narrow as 900mm.

Brisbane's soil conditions vary dramatically across the city. The eastern suburbs (Wynnum, Manly, Capalaba) tend to have sandy soils that are easy to excavate but may require additional compaction. The western suburbs (Kenmore, Chapel Hill, Ipswich) often have heavy clay soils that are harder to dig but provide a more stable base. The northern suburbs (Chermside, Aspley, North Lakes) can have fill material from previous development that needs to be removed and replaced with certified fill.

Every excavation project includes a Dial Before You Dig (DBYD) check to identify underground services — water, sewer, gas, electricity, and telecommunications. Hitting an underground service can be dangerous and expensive, so we always obtain service plans before breaking ground. We also check for asbestos-containing materials in older properties, particularly when demolishing existing concrete structures built before 1990.
